Nearly every review I can find of The Magicians compares it with Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia (some even throw in The Catcher in the Rye and Earthsea). 2nd book in the series being billed as Harry Potter for Adults, although really it's more like the Narnia books in most respects. The cover for the first volume in the series, The Magicians, is, in my opinion, one of the most iconic and alluring covers from the past several years. If Magicians is the beginnings of a deconstruction, than Lev Grossman's sequel, The Magician King, is a reconstruction of that same paradigm. I finished reading Lev Grossman's The Magicians and The Magician King. I can't imagine reading it without having read the first. The Magician King will be published in August 9, 2011. Friends with dangerous powers who lean towards mental instability, but friends nonetheless. In the sequel, The Magician King, Quentin is a king, but it is the story of Julia that turns the pages. At the end of Book I, Janet and Eliot tear Quentin away from his grief and anger to take his place on the throne as one of two kings of Fillory.
